Program Impacts

KOB is proud to share outcomes from the core programs that benefited our urban ecosystem last year.

Environmental Education

KOB Environmental Education and Outreach programs facilitate hands-on learning and connect people of all ages to the natural world.

A record 10,300 youth & adults participated in KOB learning opportunities and public events.

KOB offers a variety of high-quality education programs and resources for local educators and community groups at no cost.

Featuring the area’s leading cross-curricular, STEM-focused lessons and activities, KOB K-12 educational programs are designed to engage young learners and inspire lifelong environmental stewardship.

Public outreach, online resources, and special events help connect our community and encourage everyday actions that contribute to a healthy urban ecosystem.

Pollution Prevention

Each year, KOB engages thousands of volunteers of all ages and skill levels in service activities that benefit our community and the environment.

5,679 volunteers gave 12,271 hours of service resulting in a community benefit of more than $250,000.

Keep Omaha Beautiful volunteers give their time to help with educational events, litter cleanups, and caring for storm drains. These efforts help protect local waterways and ecosystems, enhancing our community’s natural spaces.

The KOB Healthy Waterways program provides education about actions that help prevent stormwater pollution, one of the top causes of water pollution in our state.

KOB also targets specific causes of pollution, with litter prevention strategies, a fireworks cleanup campaign, and education about proper disposal of household hazardous waste, among other topics.

Waste Reduction & Recycling

Keep Omaha Beautiful provides waste-reduction and recycling education to help residents make informed, sustainable choices about resources and the environmental impacts of waste.

1,544,187 impressions and 106,166 engagements were achieved with recycling education promotions.

KOB education and events focus on litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling, yard waste reduction, and composting to help increase overall participation in the recycling program while reducing waste and contamination.

Public outreach and youth programs are designed to encourage individual action and inspire a sense of collective impact.

KOB creates and distributes engaging online resources such as the Omaha Recycling Guide and educational video content.

Tree Canopy Improvement

KOB plants native trees in public spaces to expand and increase the resiliency of the Omaha tree canopy.

314 native trees were planted in 19 parks, trails, and public spaces in 2023.

Planting native trees in public spaces provides many benefits and improves the health of Omaha’s urban ecosystem.

KOB engages our community in planting opportunities and education about the benefits of urban trees.

Native trees can help reduce urban heat island effect, increase biodiversity, and strengthen our tree canopy’s resiliency against future pests or environmental changes.
